Comet Neon Advertising Co. was founded in 1958 by Arthur S. Sitterle Jr. in San Antonio, Texas. The company quickly established a strong reputation for quality products, on time performance and personal service with national and regional accounts including Church's Fried Chicken, Stop 'N Go and Jim Dandy Chicken. The company grew through the years relocating several times to larger facilities.
Company leadership passed to Arthur S. “Pete” Sitterle III in the 90's and he continued to build the organization through a focused strategy on manufacturing technology advances coupled with unequaled customer service. Along the way Comet Neon has been recognized as a trusted strategic supplier for companies including H-E-B Grocery Company, Valero and Taco Cabana.
In 2012, Comet Neon acquired The Barker Sign Company in Houston, Texas. This acquisition provided a foothold in the important Houston market with a reputable operator founded by Texas sign company legend, Jack Patterson. With Barker Signs already providing installation services for Comet Neon’s growing customer base in Houston, this purchase improved customer service capabilities in the Houston market.
In 2013, Comet Neon Advertising Co. merged with Reynolds Signs in Irving, Texas to form Comet Signs, LLC. Reynolds Sign was founded by George Thompson “Tommy” Reynolds IV in 1986. Reynolds quickly built a strong franchise in custom electric signs as well as sports marketing signage in the Dallas & Fort Worth area. Customers have included Texas Stadium and later AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, as well the Texas Motor Speedway, numerous university stadiums and major golf tournaments like the Byron Nelson Classic and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Reynolds also has a strong background in digital signage, electronic message centers and interior graphics packages.
The marriage of Comet Neon & Reynolds Signs was a perfect fit from a geographic and customers served aspect. We provide cutting edge sign manufacturing capabilities combined with customer focused support personnel. Both Pete Sitterle and Tommy Reynolds continue to play key roles in the daily operations of the new joint company with an eye toward continual improvement.
In January 2014, Comet Signs expanded again by establishing a presence in Austin, Texas. Experienced sign company operator, Kenneth Shelton, was hired as the Austin Market - General Manager responsible for developing a Comet Signs presence in the capital city. Once again, growth into additional geographies is focused on providing a better customer experience to current and future customers through local knowledge and experience.
